Spanish class letter

1st of November 2021

Dear penpal,

I have visited Pilsen, Chicago recently. Pilsen is located on the lower west side, what some describe as ‘the heart of Chicago’. Many people in Pilsen celebrate Día de los Muertos, or day of the dead. Day of the dead is a tradition from mexico where you’re supposed to celebrate the lives of your ancestors. During day of the dead, there are these things called ofrendas (offerings) which are small and resemble altars, with things like food, candles, photographs and clothing. but a lot of Americans just say ‘it’s near Halloween and has spookyooky skeletons, this must mean it’s a Halloween thing’, even though the two have different origins. The holidays i celebrate are Christmas, halloween, and thanksgiving. What holidays do you celebrate?

Sincerely,

BD
